The provincial government is extending its rent subsidy program until the end of March for those displaced by the CBN wildfires.
The Temporary Housing Assistance Program was offered to residents of the Conception Bay North Shore who lost their homes in this summer’s wildfires.
The program provides financial support for about 45 households who are paying rent while they await more permanent housing.
The program’s extension comes at a cost of nearly $300-thousand, with an additional six households conditionally approved for assistance.
Justice and Public Safety Minister Helen Conway Ottenheimer says government is also looking at the possibility of support to help affected families rebuild.
“Right now these are temporary measures that we have put in place, long-term solutions will be assessed and will be discussed,” she told reporters today.
Ottenheimer will head a cabinet committee, similar to one established under the previous administration, to look at support for affected communities.
