It was a historic night for women’s baseball that saw 20 Canadian athletes hear their names called at the inaugural Women’s Professional Baseball League Draft, including a player from this province.
Fourteen of the 20 who were drafted are current or former members of Baseball Canada’s Women’s National Team program, with the remaining prospects earning their opportunity after standout performances at the 2025 WPBL tryouts and through provincial high-performance pathways according to Baseball Canada.
Jaida Lee of St. John’s was selected 14th overall by New York.
She made waves a few years ago when she became the first female player ever to make the boy’s team at the Canada Summer Games.
