Fortune Bay – Cape La Hune MHA Elvis Loveless is seeking an apology from the premier after the PC Party of NL used what appeared to be a doctored image of him in a recent social media post – but it appears as though an apology may not be forthcoming.
The post in question, which criticizes the Liberal response to 24-hour snow clearing, uses two likenesses of Loveless: one in which he is smiling, and one where he has a straight face.
The photo of Loveless smiling, according to the Liberals, was altered, something the party calls “unethical, wrong and an unacceptable approach to governing.”
Loveless is calling on Premier Tony Wakeham to apologize, not just to him, but to his family and all politicians in general.
“What signal are we sending to the youth of the province who may be looking at politics, and looking at our leaders and seeing this online which really is a mockery of democracy as far as I’m concerned. It’s terrible.”
A statement from the Premier’s Office in response to a request for comment from VOCM News did not address concerns directly related to the social media post.
Instead, The Premier’s Office criticized the Liberals for past decisions on 24-hour snow clearing, and Loveless for his past role as transportation minister.
If the Liberals have any concerns about whether information is accurate they should start by admitting that they cut 24-hour snow clearing.
This week’s announcement means that the routes the Liberals cut – plus more – now have this service restored.
We will look at what other routes can be added in the future.
Mr. Loveless reminded listeners on VOCM earlier this week that he had been Liberal Transportation Minister. If he had wanted to restore this service himself, he could have done it.
Instead of snow clearing, the Liberal cabinet chose to vote to give themselves secret bonuses. That was their priority. Instead of secret bonuses, we will invest in safer roads for all of us.
