It’s a month until Christmas, the time of year when the unscrupulous among us try everything under the sun to pad their pockets.
The RNC say beware of fraudsters creating fake websites, posting deals which are too good to be true, and sending convincing texts and emails to steal your personal or financial information.
Police recommend protecting your data as if it’s the last item on sale and be wary of aggressive discounts, poorly designed websites or missing contact info.
The RNC also suggest to monitor bank and credit card statements for unfamiliar charges, and never leave shipments unattended.
Anyone who suspects they have been scammed can contact the RNC 709-729-8000 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre 1-800-495-8501.
