The MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair is encouraged by the potential surrounding a large titanium and vanadium discovery near Cartwright.
VTM (Vanadiferous titanomagnetite) is typically found in Russia and China, but a large deposit has recently been discovered near Cartwright.
Known as the Radar Project, the deposit, which is owned by Saga Metals, covers an area of approximately 24,000 hectares and according to the company, has the potential to evolve into a “globally significant VTM project.”
Area MHA Lisa Dempster says she had an opportunity to speak with Saga officials earlier this week.
She says VTM is used in aerospace, defence, advanced batteries, and steelmaking. “They’re doing some great work with exploration, they’re creating local job opportunities in the community, and we’ve got Saga Metals on our radar.”
