Residents Ordered to Leave as Wildfire Near Kingston Burns Close to Homes

An evacuation order was issued for communities in the Conception Bay North area as a wildfire grows to just one kilometre from multiple communities.
The department believes the fire is running north and south.
Water bombers and helicopters are working from above, while ground crews work from below to douse the flames.

Evacuation Order, Air Quality Warning Issued Due To Holyrood Wildfire

Residents have been ordered to leave their homes in the area of Route 60 from Beaumont Place to the bridge at the entrance of Holyrood due to a wildfire.
That includes people living on side roads.
A special air quality statement has also been issued for the region due to the smoke.

RNC Investigating Paddy’s Pond Fire

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is hoping to speak with a woman who they say may have information related to the investigation into the Paddy’s Pond wildfire.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says when the fire was reported, officers spoke with numerous people in the area. Now, they are hoping to speak with a woman seen leaving the area just before the fire was reported.
The fire later prompted evacuation notices and significant damage.
Officials Asking People to Avoid Bay D’Espoir Highway Due to Martin Lake Fire

In central, ground crews worked on saving cabins near Martin Lake and Rushy Pond.
The fire was re-mapped, and tallied at 1,770 hectares.

Devastation from CBN Wildfire Coming to Light as Officials Lift Remaining Evacuation Orders

The scope of the devastation from the wildfire is coming to light today as media get a close-up look of the situation.
VOCM’s Linda Swain was part of group of reporters who were guided through the area.
She says the devastation in Adam’s Cove is quite extensive. There’s nothing but rubble left of the schoolhouse, a historic building, for example. You can also see where houses once stood because of the nails on the ground – blown out from the heat.
The loss of the Adam’s Cove schoolhouse is a testament to the extraordinary power of this particular fire.

Fire Guts Former Lodge on New World Island

A massive fire has consumed a large structure in Hillgrade on New World Island.
Pictures and videos posted to social media show flames spewing from a building alongside the Road to the Isles known locally as the Green Lodge.
The blaze forced the closure of the road to Twillingate for some time.

Opening Ceremonies Start Canada Games in St. John’s

Athletes kicked off over two weeks of sports with its opening ceremonies in of the Canada Games St. John’s.
Organizers introduced provincial flag bearers from each province, including Nathan Luscombe of Grand Falls-Windsor, a swimmer who was born with a disability.
While Premier John Hogan addressed the wildfire situation in his speech, he noted that a lot has changed in the city since St. John’s last hosted the event in 1977.
