The Opposition is calling on the provincial government to remove the provincial sales tax from electricity bills to provide some relief to residents struggling with the cost of living.
The PUB recently approved a 7 per cent increase in electricity rates and residents are starting to feel the squeeze as temperatures drop.
Liberal Leader John Hogan says the only flexibility government has in providing cost relief when it comes to electricity bills is in the taxes charged.
He says had the House of Assembly opened this fall, action could have been taken before the Christmas holidays.
Hogan is pushing the premier to do what the Liberals promised to do and remove the HST portion of tax from bills to provide relief for residents this winter.
