The province’s Seniors’ Advocate is encouraging people to check in on the seniors in their lives this holiday season.
While this time of year can be joyous for many, it can be very difficult for others, including feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Susan Walsh encourages people to check in on their neighbors, and to drop in for a visit which she says can be “wonderful” for seniors.
As well, Walsh says a lot of the focus this time of year is around toy drives and other initiatives for children, which is “wonderful,” but similar initiatives would also be great for seniors who need it.
She says no one is going to put up their hand and say they need help or a hamper, but “everybody could use some help right now.” She asks that if someone has some money to spare, they should consider providing some support for seniors.
