Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador is advocating for a long-term infrastructure plan from the provincial government.
Communities across the province are having to contend with rising costs for almost everything, especially infrastructure.
President Amy Coady, who says they have been speaking with the PCs about possible solutions, says such a plan would let municipalities know “well in advance” what funding they are going to get and how much.
That way, she argues, they can figure out how much money they will need and can go to tender. As it stands now, she says they have to figure out what funding to apply for, wait to see if it gets approved, and then go to tender. By that time, Coady says the construction season could be over and then they have to wait for months to get started, by which time needs might have changed and costs may have increased.
