A man, wanted by the RNC, was picked up by RCMP after driving the wrong way on a one way street in Port Saunders.
RCMP stopped the man’s vehicle on Central Avenue – a marked one-way street – last Friday afternoon.
He told police he was not from the area and wasn’t aware that the road was one-way. He then provided a false name, date of birth and home province to police.
An investigation determined that the driver was in fact from a neighbouring community and was wanted by the RNC.
He was also prohibited from driving as a condition of a release order.
Forty-one-year-old James Boone was arrested by the RCMP and transferred to RNC custody. He’s scheduled to appear in court on charges of failing to comply with a release order, and resisting or obstructing police.
The investigation continues and more charges are possible.
