CUPE is sounding the alarm about the future of public services in the province, claiming that the province “is under attack from within.”
President Sherry Hiller says the provincial government is “systematically deconstructing the public service.” She says from Memorial University which is preparing for a “smaller future” to what she calls “costly private contractors in public housing” the public service is under attack.
Hillier says her members in each public sector are reporting funding cuts, a reduction in services and the increased use of Artificial Intelligence.
She’s urging communities to “heed the warnings of public workers” who say all signs point to a “difficult future for Newfoundland and Labrador.”
