Recent incidents in the province in which pets got caught in traps set for wild animals have prompted some to call for changes to regulations to reduce the danger level for Fifi and Fido.
People who set traps for animals such as beaver require a license to do so and while Janet McCormack has no beef with trapping or hunting, she would like to see some extra safety measures.
For example, she told The Tim Powers Show on VOCM that signage letting people know of the presence of such a trap would be helpful.
“People are out in the woods more now than they ever were before with all the hiking trails,” says McCormack. ”
Some may simply say “keep your pet on a leash” but that isn’t always the solution. McCormack says a friend of hers was out walking her setter, leash attached, when it came in contact with a trap. She says it was only luck that her friend’s father was with her.
