The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it’s learned that Government General Mary Simon’s pay has increased to nearly $400,000 per year thanks to provisions under the Governor General’s Act.
Federal Director Franco Terrazzano says the pay increase is automatic, bringing the Governor General’s salary to a level that is five times greater than the average Canadian wage.
He says the Governor General’s raise this year alone is about $16,000 “about enough money to cover an entire family’s grocery bill for a whole year.”
The Taxpayer’s Federation is calling for legislative change to eliminate automatic salary increases.
