A marketing expert says operators in and around Gros Morne National Park are hoping to attract more visitors from within the province as travelers feel the pinch of rising fuel costs.
Travel & Leisure Magazine has identified Gros Morne as one of the least-visited national parks in the country, despite the unique features and experiences it offers.
Steve Wheeler of Visit Gros Morne says rising fuel costs could prove a hinderance for many travelers this year.
He likens the situation to travel restrictions imposed during the pandemic when operators relied on people vacationing at home.
“Kicking it back to COVID when people were traveling within province, I think a lot of people, again, from the more populous Avalon Peninsula had a chance to come over and maybe see it for the first time or rekindle that love for it.”
“So I think if gas prices are limiting travel, I think you will see certainly a strong domestic presence in the park. I think it’s a great destination, something for everybody. And we certainly welcome people, whether from the island or from abroad.”
