The health minister says Labradorians will have “no reason” to sue government after changes are made to the medical transportation system in Labrador.
Lela Evans expressed frustration with the system in place for residents of the north coast of Labrador on CBC Radio’s Labrador Morning show Wednesday.
She went so far as to suggest that residents should “sue the government” if delays continue.
Premier Tony Wakeham declared his confidence in the minister during Question Period.
Evans says government is being “proactive” in its approach to changing the Medical Transportation Assistance Program, indicating that her comments were taken out of context.
“The changes that we’re going to make now are going to ensure that people have access to timely health care, so there will be no reason to sue the government,” she said.
Minister Reveals Own Health Struggles
The health minister meanwhile calls questions and suggestions from members of the Opposition about her absence from the budget speech Wednesday “disgusting.”
Evans revealed to reporters yesterday that she did not attend the budget speech because she had to undergo a biopsy at her doctor’s recommendation.
“Minister Pardy was set to deliver his speech and that was the exact time for my needle biopsy,” she told reporters.
“I took the advice that I give to everybody else. In this day and age with all the stressors you got to look after your health. So for me, I basically took my own advice…caucus is very supportive of me so I took the time.”
