The statue of Amelia Earhart will be back on display in Habour Grace in time for the anniversary of her historic solo transatlantic flight.
Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, made her historic journey in 1932, taking off from the air strip in Harbour Grace and landing in a bog in Northern Ireland 14 hours later.
Her bronze likeness, a popular landmark in the town, was stolen under cover of darkness in April of 2025.
The statue, which had been cut into pieces, was recovered by the RCMP several months later in a wooded area near Heart’s Content.
Luckily, the damage could be repaired and the town has an event planned to mark the statue’s return to its rightful place.
The event will be held at the Spirit of Harbour Grace Park on May 20th – the anniversary of her historic flight.
