The Liberal opposition questioned government as to why members of the review panel were not available to answer questions on their report.
Premier Tony Wakeham says the intent was to have the panel members present when the report was released today however, they indicated they would “let the report speak for itself.”
Wakeham says because the panel is independent, he could not compel them to attend.
That response didn’t sit well with Liberal Leader John Hogan during Question Period.
Hogan says the panel indicated that they “would not be releasing the names of the individuals they spoke to in the interview to get the information from the report. So, not only do we not know who they’ve spoken to, the authors will not speak to what information was provided to them.”
“How are Newfoundlanders and Labradorians supposed to trust this secret report just because (there aren’t) redactions in it? They need to make themselves available to the public.”
He asked if the premier will insist that the authors of the report answer to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Premier Tony Wakeham says the panel has fulfilled its mandate, delivered its report and “we will follow the recommendations of that report as we move to improve the previous agreement that was reached.”
