An off-duty conservation officer was johnny-on-the spot to help a newborn moose calf after its mother was struck by a vehicle and ran into the woods near Catamaran Provincial Park.
The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands says the instinct to help wild animals that appear to be hungry, orphaned, abandoned or injured is understandable, but they should be left undisturbed.
If someone should come across a wild animal that appears to be in distress, it is best to contact a trained conservation officer who can assess the situation and render assistance if necessary.
In this case, an off-duty wildlife officer happened to be in the area and was able to lend a helping hand.
