Two men have been arrested and charged and more charges are anticipated following a police check in Corner Brook last evening.
The RCMP-RNC Joint Forces Operation arrested the pair while conducting checks as part of efforts to monitor repeat offenders to make sure they’re abiding by court imposed conditions.
Drugs were seized during a subsequent search.
Police say 30-year-old Alexander (Sandy) Powell was arrested after being seen participating in possible drug trafficking.
A second man, who was also arrested, provided police with a fake name. He was later identified as 33-year-old Travis Byrne, who was under a Canada-wide arrest warrant.
A search resulted in the seizure of quantities of suspected cocaine and other drugs, cash and cell phones.
Powell, who is facing a charge of failing to comply with a release order, was released on conditions while Byrne was conveyed to the detention centre in Corner Brook and is facing a charge of obstruction.
Police anticipate further charges pending the results of lab analysis.)
