A man from Gander Bay, accused of sexual assault, has had his case set over to August for election and plea. The accused is someone who is known to many because of a high profile case dating back more than 20 years.
Nelson Hart was previously accused of killing his 3-year-old twin daughters in a case that dominated headlines in the province for years.
Hart’s children drowned in Gander Lake in 2002. The subsequent murder trial in which he was convicted, focused on evidence gathered in a “Mr. Big” sting.
That conviction was overturned on appeal and upheld by the Supreme Court of Canada. The Crown decided not to retry the case.
Hart was arrested on August 24th of last year, and charged with sexual assault, assault and damage to property stemming from a report received in October of 2024..
The matter was heard in provincial court in Gander yesterday. He’s scheduled to return to court on August 18th.
