Residents of Cartwright gathered outside the local school this morning calling for a meeting with government on the recent decision to cancel a contract for the construction of a new school.
Government halted the contract last week citing escalating costs.
Cartwright Mayor Shawn Holwell says they have yet to hear directly from the minister beyond what has been said publicly in the media.
He calls the school a vital part of the community.
“It’s not a big ask. We want a meeting with the government. We’d like to know what their plans are. The only thing we’ve seen so far was the press release from the minister, and then the minister’s interview there this past Friday (where) he was very dismissive.”
“We all agreed that this is what we need to do. We need make a stand. We need to take a stand up for ourselves.”
