A man from this province has been sentenced after pleading guilty to an unusual crime.
Kagan Erich Roy, who’s 41, was charged a few years ago after emails to the Russian Embassy in Ottawa contained threats directed towards the Russian Ambassador and their family.
RCMP and its Integrated National Security Enforcement Team in Ottawa, as well as provincial forces, worked the case.
In March, Roy pleaded guilty to charges of criminal harassment and uttering threats. On Tuesday, he was given a 24-month conditional sentence order, which police say contains strict conditions. That order will then be followed by a 36-month probation period.
Assistant Superintendent of the RCMP Eastern Region, Aaron Glode, says the case sends a clear message that reports of online threats and harassment are taken seriously, and those responsible for committing such crimes will be held accountable.
