Firefighters had a difficult time getting back and forth to fill their pumper trucks while fighting a house fire in Torbay Sunday evening because of the number of vehicles blocking the main road just to have a look.
Deputy Chief of Operations with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, Paul Chaytor says onlookers are a common occurrence, but are a real problem for firefighters trying to do their job.
“It causes a delay in emergency traffic…. (getting) apparatus to the scene, shuttling water… it is a hindrance to emergency service, that’s for sure.”
The home on Woodbridge Lane was destroyed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
