A Torbay-based animal rescue centre is seeing an increasing number of infectious diseases among local songbirds.
Rock Wildlife Rescue says it has spotted several birds showing symptoms of infectious conjunctivitis – commonly known as pink eye.
Symptoms include swollen, crusty, or completely closed eyes in birds.
They’re asking anyone who notices a sick bird to remove and disinfect their bird feeders and bird baths for two weeks to help stop the spread.
They also recommend keeping feeders elevated to prevent birds from picking up bacteria from the ground.
