The organization that helps make sure students have access to a healthy breakfast when they head to school says uptake and costs with their program continue to rise.
The Kids Eat Smart Foundation operates breakfast clubs at schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Executive director Celina Stoyles says every school day they serve about 47,000 breakfasts, and they did see an increase over the last year.
She says uptake and the cost of that to their program increased by 28 per cent over the last year. Stoyles says that’s not surprising, citing stats that indicate that in this province one out of every three children lives in a food insecure home.
