Those who like to escape the winter blues with a trip down to the Sunshine State will no longer be able to fly direct out of St. John’s.
WestJet’s direct connections out of YYT to Tampa and Orlando, Florida, will not be returning in the spring of 2027.
In a statement to VOCM News, WestJet says there was not enough demand to support the flights out of St. John’s during the last season.
The carrier says the decision was not made lightly and hopes those interested in travelling to Tampa or Orlando will connect via Toronto Pearson.
Meanwhile, WestJet flight attendants could walk off the job in fewer than three weeks if they are unable to reach a new deal on contract demands.
The union’s main sticking points include what it alleges is unpaid work.
Negotiations resume on Monday.
