The Mistaken Point UNESCO World Heritage Site is marking a special anniversary today with a community celebration.
The site, on the southern tip of the Avalon Peninsula, features the exposed fossils of some of the world’s very first complex life forms dating back an astounding 565 million years.

It received official UNESCO World Heritage designation ten years ago, and has attracted thousands of visitors each year.
A celebratory event is taking place this morning at 11:00 at the town hall in Portugal Cove South. Environment Minister Chris Tibbs will be on hand to deliver remarks.
