A recent push by the provincial government to extend what’s known as a “shoulder season” for tourism is welcome news for festival organizers on the west coast.

The Rocky Harbour Storytelling Festival, which is happening in mid-October, is on the receiving end of $5,000 from the province.

The money is part of an initiative by the province to extend the tourism season by supporting events happening outside peak time.

Organizer Todd White says the support is great to see.

He says they moved their dates back in an effort to extend the season locally, which helps to bring more tourists in and keep people employed longer.
