The town of Salmon Cove says after a recent meeting with government officials, they have a positive feeling that a solution to their algae bloom problem is “finally on the horizon.”

The town has been dealing with an algae bloom issue for years, at one point saying it has “played havoc” on area ponds, rivers, and the local ecosystem.

In a post to Facebook, the town says a recent meeting with environment minister Chris Tibbs, area MHA Riley Balsom, and other officials “went very well.”

The post indicates that the politicians “listened intently” to their concerns, and gave them some suggestions on the next steps.

They were taken down to the river and shown the problem in-person. The town states they were “quite concerned with what they were seeing.”

Salmon Cove will be meeting with neighbouring Victoria to discuss options for implementing a permanent solution, including how to apply for the necessary funding.
