Plans are in the works to re-route a section of a snowmobile trail in central Newfoundland.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation wants to shift the trail near Jumper’s Brook, east of Bishop’s Falls. The new section. which would be about a half-kilometer long, would bypass an area where the trail uses the Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro transmission line right-of-way.
The federation says re-routing it would improve safety by avoiding hazards such as towers, guy wires and uneven terrain. Construction would also include widening some sections of access roads in the same area.
People have until August 28 to comment on the proposal through the Department of Environment and Lands.
