A 53-year-old woman is dead following a moose-vehicle collision on the Trans Canada early this morning.

RCMP responded to the scene around 2:45 this morning.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ensuing investigation resulted in the extended closure of the highway just west of the Chapel Arm exit. The highway has since reopened to traffic.

The investigation continues.
