Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre says Newfoundland and Labrador needs to be part of Ottawa’s National Shipbuilding Strategy.
The plan, which has been in place for several years, aims to renew Canada’s federal fleet of naval, Coast Guard, and other vessels.
Poilievre says the economic opportunity for the province could be in the “billions of dollars.”
He points to facilities at Bull Arm, Cow Head and Argentia as possible sites to be in the mix.
“But by opening up the strategy to Newfoundland and Labrador, it would allow our incredible businesses here, our engineers, tradespeople as well, to compete and win contracts to help make our country strong, safe, and sovereign here at home,” he told reporters.
