Charges laid against a 17-year-old boy for making, possessing and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation material by altering pictures using AI is a stark reminder of the seriousness of the crime.

RNC is emphasizing the importance of getting the word out and making sure that young people in particular know the consequences of altering and sharing images of a sexual nature.

Constable Steph Myers says the Constabulary has been working with Thrive in getting out to schools and spreading the word about the consequences involved.

She says it’s also important for parents to speak with children and teens about the responsible use of technology and social media.

Constable Myers says it’s not about getting angry with young people, but to open up the conversation and allow them to feel comfortable to come forward if they are the victim of a crime.
