A busy stretch of road in the metro area will soon be undergoing construction to address concerns with traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
The first phase of work is now underway near Goldstone Street and Thorburn Road and crews will continue to make their way towards Kelsey Drive in the months ahead. All work is expected to wrap up in December.
St. John’s city councillor Kate Cadigan says the plan also includes work to the notorious quagmire that is the intersection of Kelsey and Goldstone Street near the Team Gushue on/off ramps.

She says that area was identified as an area of concern based off collision reports.
Cadigan says commuters can expect slowdowns and lane reductions as crews carry out their work.
“No pain, no gain,” said Cadigan, who warns drivers to be prepared to slow down and maybe rethink their route when it comes to any construction zone in the city. She says the hope is that the work will result in a safer roadway for drivers and pedestrians.
