An electrician who works at the Health Sciences Centre is calling attention to what he calls “systemic issues” affecting trades workers in the public sector.
NAPE members rallied outside the hospital on the corner of Prince Philip Drive yesterday in support of workers who they say are “underpaid, understaffed, and undermined” by work being contracted out to the private sector.
Kyle Mahoney, the acting president of NAPE local 6206, says they do see a lot of work being contracted out in the hospital, stating that there are currently more contractors in the building than there are public sector staff.
He calls that disheartening,” especially considering that most of those workers make more money than they do.
