Marine Atlantic has taken ownership of its newest vessel.
Last January, the Crown corporation announced that it had entered into a five-year lease with Stena to acquire the vessel, which has been named the Île Rouge.
Colin Tibbo, the VP of service and innovation at Marine Atlantic, says the ship is currently in Gibraltar.
He says they have a crew over in the region that will help sail the vessel over to North Sydney. The trip to Canada will take about a week.
Tibbo says the plan all along has been for the Île Rouge to go into service in mid-October, when the Blue Puttees goes on dry dock.
