Ottawa is going to extend the suspension of the federal excise tax on fuel until the end of January, but then will bring it back in two stages.
It amounts to 10 cents on gasoline, 11 cents on aviation fuel, and 4 cents on diesel.
The tax will be restored at 50 per cent in February and March, and 100 per cent as of April 1.
The price of fuel has jumped substantially since the conflict in the Middle East.

François-Philippe Champagne, the minister of finance and national revenue, made the announcement at a news conference.
“This is real relief, right now,” says Champagne. “Relief for families that are commuting to work, driving their children to activities, or managing every-day life, for truckers, farmers, builders and small businesses – fuel prices down across the country.”
