Newfoundland and Labrador has a presence at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, that’s despite a special debate in the House of Assembly that requires all government members to be in attendance.

Hundreds of investors have been invited to Toronto by Prime Minister Mark Carney to meet with Canadian business leaders in hopes of generating $1 trillion in local investment over the next five years.

Canadian premiers are also in attendance, however Premier Tony Wakeham won’t be making the trip because of the special sitting of the House of Assembly.

He says a government official is attending on his behalf and a team of representatives “will be in the area for engagement with companies and investors.”

Wakeham says he fully supports the prime minister’s investment attraction efforts.
