The province’s chief medical officer of health is pleased with uptake so far for in-hospital RSV vaccinations after a child is born.
Yesterday, the provincial government announced expanded RSV coverage for children under six months of age, and adults 75 and older.
The vaccine has been offered for all newborns before they leave the hospital since May.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says while it is still very early, uptake in hospitals so far has been “promising” at over 80 per cent.
She says in other jurisdictions where this has already been done, vaccination is “widely accepted” with rates of over 90 per cent of parents choosing to get their children vaccinated before leaving the hospital.
