Two men described by police as “repeat offenders,” are facing a total of 44 charges in connection with a number of thefts on and around the Eastport Peninsula.
Gander-Lewisporte RCMP began an investigation into a string of break-ins, vehicle thefts, and other property-related offences earlier this month.
On Wednesday, with help from the public, police were able to locate a vehicle reported stolen. Two men said to have been inside were arrested inside a nearby building.
Police say they have linked the pair, 31-year-old Christopher Brandon Lush, and 24-year-old Patrick Oldford, to at least two other stolen vehicles and a number of other incidents in the area.
Lush is facing a total of 27 charges, while Oldford is facing the remaining 17.
More charges are anticipated. The pair appeared in court today.
The investigation has resulted in the recovery of vehicles and other items reported stolen.
Lush faces a total of 27 charges, including:
- Possessing property obtained by crime – six counts
- Breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence – four counts
- Theft of a motor vehicle – three counts
- Theft over $5,000
- Fraud under $5,000 – two counts
- Fraud
- Possessing a stolen credit card – two counts
- Unlawful theft or forgery of a credit card
- Failure to comply with a probation order – seven counts
Oldford is charged with:
- Breaking and entering and committing an indictable offence – four counts
- Possessing property obtained by crime – four counts
- Theft of a motor vehicle – three counts
- Theft over $5,000
- Fraud under $5,000 – four counts
- Possessing property obtained by crime – less than $5000
