The minister of social supports and well being says that supports are available for those who have been displaced from 91 Brazil Street, but he stopped short of providing any further help.
The downtown apartment building was shut down by the city just before Thanksgiving, with the city citing fire and life safety concerns.
Some residents have since voiced their frustration in finding further housing, or help, in moving their belongings.
Chris Tibbs, who is encouraging those displaced to call NL Housing, would not comment on whether he plans to provide further supports to help those move or with increased rent.
“At the end of the day, we’re just people helping people. So, if we do have the supports there for them, and they qualify for the supports that are underneath the programs in the department, we will be there to help them,” he told VOCM News.
“But they can call at any time, whether it be Newfoundland and Labrador Housing, if they need somewhere to stay, or if they need somewhere in shelter to stay, just call the department and we’ll make sure we’re there.”
