The Autism Society has laid off eight workers due to a reduction in revenue raised.
Executive Director Scott Crocker says funds raised have dropped by 50 per cent over the last few years—meaning $300,000 less in operating funds.
Crocker blames the current economic landscape for the drop. He says core funding provided by government has remained the same but their fundraising efforts have met with less success because of economic conditions.
He says it’s been very challenging trying to determine which positions to eliminate while still delivering programs to the hundreds of families they work with.
