A major port development on the Northern Peninsula has been given the environmental green light pending certain conditions.
Great Northern Port Inc is behind the project that will see a major Marine Port at Cremaillere Harbour near St. Anthony.
Among the conditions that must be met before construction is the testing on the acid generating potential of ore to be stored at the site, surveys must be done of bird life in the area before any clearing takes place. That includes a survey of the local short-eared owl population.
A traffic impact statement must also be submitted to the Department of Transportation and Works on the projected volume of traffic on any necessary road construction or upgrades.
