A “brazen burglar” has been breaking into homes in St. John’s.

One person in the central-city area around Carpasian Road took to Facebook recently to warn people about the culprit who has been getting into homes, sometimes more than once, to avail themselves of whatever valuables they can collect.

RNC Constable James Cadigan says it can happen anywhere and people have to be extra vigilant.

He’s asking people to report any suspicious activity immediately to police. He says most thieves like to work under cover of darkness, so signs like motion sensor lights coming on, or dogs barking could be a sign that someone is lurking in the shadows.

He says they’ve received reports related to crimes of opportunity, where thieves are able to grab items that may be in view from a window or where valuables might be expected.
