The governing conservatives have elected Boris Johnson to lead their party, setting him to become Britain’s next prime minister.
He defeated rival Jeremy Hunt in a vote of party members, claiming over 66 per cent of the vote.
On Wednesday, he will be handed the reins from outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May, who announced her resignation from the position earlier this year.

May has served as Prime Minister of the UK since 2016, launching the campaign to withdraw from the European Union, dubbed ‘Brexit.’
Johnson is a staunch advocate for Brexit, vowing in his campaign that the country “must leave the EU on October 31st, come what may.”
