People are already walking all over the world in aid of migrants, and today they’ll do the same around Quidi Vidi Lake.
The objective is to add to the number of miles people are walking, and identify and empathize with migrants and displaced persons all over the world.
Chair of St. John’s Arch Diocese Council of Development of Peace, Dermott Whalen, is one of the organizers of the walk. He says they’re hoping for a large turnout around the lake today.
Whalen says it’s to assist those who are without or forced to leave their homes to find a home outside of their own countries due to famine, war and other reasons.
He says it’s a global problem and deserves the attention of all Canadians.
Whalen says there is no particular fundraising goal, but they’re asking for any free will offering.
He says they will be very grateful for whatever people decide to contribute, and all will go to assist migrants.
The walk began at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.
