The leader of the NDP reminded government in the Legislature yesterday that it is not going to find a loophole to be let off the hook if it does not bring in a budget on time.
Government’s chequebook becomes a little rubbery come September 30, but neither the NDP nor the PC’s will grant an extension to Interim Supply this time.
That could leave government—and all who work for it—in the lurch without a new budget.
NDP Leader Alison Coffin told Finance Minister Tom Osborne yesterday that they need about two months to debate a September 30 budget.
Osborne assured that the budget would be tabled in time for passage by the due date.
Coffin says that means the budget will have to be introduced by the end of July, a point not disputed by Osborne.
