A church and one of the oldest buildings in Tors Cove was torn down over the weekend.
Sacred Heart Parish on the Southern Shore has stood since 1893. The last Roman Catholic service was held there in 2014.

The diocese closed the church because they were unable to cover the costs to maintain it.
The communities of Tors Cove, Mobile, Burnt Cove, St. Michael’s, Bauline and LaManche were all part of the parish.

Applications were put out in early June for the contract to tear down the church and O’Brien’s Trucking was awarded the contract.
Terrence O’Brien and his team dismantled and removed the structure on Saturday morning.
