More businesses have opened up in level two and more children will be heading out to daycare.
Many parents are wondering how best to ensure their kids’ safety in the new reality of COVID-19.
Dr. Natalie Bridger is a clinical chief of infection prevention and control for Eastern Health and an associate professor in pediatrics at the faculty of medicine at MUN.
She says it’s reasonable for parents to be concerned about sending their children to child care.
However, Bridger says we need to remember how the coronavirus is spread: person to person through prolonged close contact in closed spaces.
She says if there are any signs of sickness in your child or you, stay home. But if everyone is well, the main thing to keep in mind is that washing hands works, either with an alcohol based hand rub or soap and water, and physical distancing.
Another concern is allowing children to play on playgrounds. Bridger says to bring along some hand sanitizer and to be sure to wash everyone’s hands immediately when they get home.
