The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says while she was disappointed with images showing people gathered in dense groups on George Street on the weekend, she’s confident the issue is being addressed.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald calls recent meetings with the George Street Association “productive,” saying they are “as interested and eager to make this work as we are.”

(Photos of crowds attending packed clubs on George Street, reportedly on the night of July 4th, are being widely shared on social media.)
Dr. Fitzgerald says she’s encouraged by steps that have been taken in the last couple of days.
She believes tightening up the order, to allow NLC inspectors to go in and do what needs to be done, will be helpful.
In the meantime, the Chief Medical Officer of Health issued an amendment to the Special Measures Order for bar establishments in Alert Level 2.
